The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, "Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection". This Major Programme comprises individual programmes on food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment and radiation technologies. These programmes are supported by laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco and Vienna. The Major Programme's objective is to enhance the capacity of Member States to meet basic human needs and to assess and manage the marine and terrestrial environments through the use of nuclear and isotopic techniques in sustainable development programmes.

Main Purpose

Reporting to the Laboratory Coordinator-NA/Project Executive for Major Capital Projects in Seibersdorf, the Innovative Communications Technologies Consultant (NA) develops new tools, in particular virtual approaches for providing access to, increasing understanding of, and building Member State support for the work of the NA Laboratories, and other novel approaches, such as multimedia products, to promote resource mobilization for the ReNuAL2 initiative.

Functions / Key Results Expected

• Develop and advise on the implementation of a virtual platform for the NA Laboratories;
• Facilitate the involvement of key internal stakeholders in developing and presenting virtual tours that enhance understanding of and promote support for the work of each lab;
• Provide advice for the provision of technical inputs;
• Collaborate with involved laboratory staff and other experts in the development of virtual tours and other related multimedia products; Identify, develop and create multimedia products in support of key upcoming events;
• Identify key outreach opportunities with diverse stakeholders;
• Deliver virtual tours or multimedia events.

Qualifications and Experience

• University degree in design, communications science or international relations combined with relevant hands-on expereince.
• Minimum of three years' experience in designing and developing communications material on complex technical topics.
• Direct experience developing virtual platforms and tours is a distinct advantage.
• Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
• Knowledge of German is an asset.
• Experience with resource mobilization in an international organization setting strongly preferred.
• Awareness of cutting-edge options for presenting and promoting laboratory operations and research, in particular virtual and multimedia approaches.
• Demonstrable creativity in applying such approaches to making complex technical topics accessible and appealing to diverse, non-specialist audiences.
• Familar with funding of IAEA Member States

Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 250, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
