Result of Service At the completion of the contracted days, the consultant will have helped produce/execute the visual elements and design of a study to assess the implications of climate change in humanitarian action. The data analysis and visualization designer will work in close consultation with a focal point in the Policy Branch and the schedule of delivery will be dependent upon the actual completion of source material by Policy staff. The data analysis and visualization designer will be engaged "on retainer" and will work remotely, receiving files electronically for formatting from the Policy Team.

Expected duration The contract will last 20 days between 24 January and 31 March 2022, with the possibility of extension.
Duties and Responsibilities In 2022, OCHA Policy Branch will finalize the Climate Change report in humanitarian action. This report will include advanced data visualizations and charts of the UN's work in climate change, data analysis of the capacity of the humanitarian operating environment to absorb technical solutions and respond to climate events, for humanitarian action. Additionally, the climate change report will include scenarios that will need illustrations.
Objectives and Tasks In close consultation with the Policy Team to determine the exact requirements of the publication, the consultant will: - Actively participate in discussion with the editorial team in the data acquisition, data analysis, data visualization and charts of the report. - Assist in the visual design of all components of the report- print and electronic versions, including: 1. Manage and develop data visualizations for trends, organigrammes, concepts, 2. Develop and design visual elements for inclusion in online platforms e.g. OCHA website or microsites. 3. Create all original artwork/illustrations for the chapters and case studies and scenarios. 4. Assist in the layout of the report
Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree in Informatics, data visualization and design. Experience: Prior substantial experience designing complex and original graphics, including charts, logos, covers - Prior direct experience working with data analysis and visualization for major publications - Prior experience working with OCHA is highly desirable, especially prior experience in the publication of OCHA material and flagship reports. Language: Fluency in English, written and oral, is required.
