Expected duration ¿ The duration of the consultancy is 6 to 11 months, extendable according to performance and availability of funds. ¿ Remuneration for this consultancy will be 1,800 USD depending on the fund availability, qualifications, and relevant experience. ¿ The incumbent can be in any UNRWA field of operations (Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, or West Bank).

Duties and Responsibilities ¿ Participate in the project specification and software design phases. ¿ Design and Implement AWS architecture, AWS Solutions services, and tools. ¿ Design Native Cloud Application Architectures or optimize applications for AWS. ¿ (S3, SQS, Lambda Comprehend, Transcribe, Faregate, Aurora, API GW, CFT, SAM to build a data flow pipeline). ¿ Collaborate within a project team to solve complex problems. ¿ Ensure the delivered solution meets the technical specifications and design requirements. ¿ Be responsible for meeting development deadlines.

¿ Perform other duties as may be required.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: ¿ A university degree or master’s degree from an accredited educational institution in information technology, information management, Information systems, computer science, computer engineering, Software engineering, Business Administration, Management, or other related disciplines;

Experience: ¿ A minimum of 7 years of experience for a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years for a master’s degree in Data warehousing methodologies and modelling techniques.

The candidate’s experience should include sufficient expertise covering the following domains: ¿ Experience working in Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) Analytical Datastores such as Teradata ¿ Experience in handling semi-structured data (JSON, XML) using the VARIANT attribute in Snowflake ¿ Experience in creating master data datasets. ¿ Experience in Migration, methods to cloud data solutions ¿ Experience in working with Batch and Stream data ¿ Experience with SQL ¿ Hands-on experience in Cloud technologies such as 1. AWS - S3, Glacier, EC2, Lambda, SQS, Redshift, Athena, EMR, AWS Glue, AWS Lake Formation, Kinesis, AWS Batch 2. Azure - Blob Storage, Cool Blob Storage, Virtual Machine, Functions, SQL Datawarehouse, DataFactory, Databricks, CosmosDB

¿ Experience with ELT concepts ¿ Experience with ETL tools such as Informatica ¿ RDBMS experience

¿ Experience working with DevOps tools such as GitLabs, Jenkins, CodeBuild, CoePipeline CodeDeploy, etc. ¿ Strong Python programming skills ¿ Strong scripting skills: Bash Shell and PowerShell

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

¿ Certified AWS Developer – Associate or ¿ AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (Preferred, not required) ¿ Certified AWS DevOps – Professional (Nice to have) or ¿ Certified AWS Big Data Specialty (Nice to have) ¿ General understanding of the Snowflake architecture ¿ Experience with MDM tool is plus ¿ Experience with containers (docker) ¿ Experience in Hadoop, Hive, HBASE, Spark is a plus ¿ General understanding and hands-on experience with terraform ¿ Data visualization skills in Tableau or AWS QuickSight are a plus but not required.

Additional Information UNRWA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Nations International Computing Center (UNICC) to enhance livelihood and human development opportunities for Palestine refugees in Gaza. United Nations International Computing Center (UNICC) is a UN agency that provides IT services to other UN agencies on a cost-recovery basis.

UNRWA Information Management and Technology Department (IMTD) is seeking an AWS Data Engineer to join our expanding Data & Analytics team and will be responsible for AWS cloud technologies for ETL modeling, data warehouse, data lake design/building, and data movement. This individual will be responsible for supporting existing data warehouse customers and performing a senior leadership role for new projects to implement various data solutions in AWS.

The consultant will report administratively to the Head Information Technology Service Centre at Headquarters Gaza and report technically to United Nations International Computing Center (UNICC).
