Within UNICEF’s Division of Communication (DOC) the Youth Engagement Team works to strengthen the organization’s capacity to engage young people as advocates and campaigners for children’s rights, through our flagship campaigns and initiatives; and ensure that the perspectives and voices of young people are an integral part of our communications and advocacy.

How can you make a difference?

EXPECTED RESULTS The expected result is enhanced capacity in the Youth Engagement Team to meet the demands of a growing interest in youth engagement; strengthened knowledge management and capacity building efforts; increased and more effective monitoring and reporting.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT The consultant will be responsible for:

1) Planning, Monitoring and Reporting a. Leading the development of 6 monthly Youth Engagement Team report. b. Supporting planning process of the section, the Division and the organization. c. Supporting the development of KPI and monitoring systems for key initiatives and activities. d. Supporting on Planning, M&E and reporting on key initiatives led by the YE team in conjunction with the M&E team. e. Leading the design and development of other reports from the Youth Engagement Team, including coordinating inputs from countries, other divisions and other departments in DOC. f. Coordinating inputs from the Youth Engagement Team into divisional and other reports. g. Developing communication messages to disseminate reports. h. Managing the Youth Team calendar.

2) Knowledge Management and Capacity Building a. Implementing updates to SharePoint and WeShare for the Youth Engagement Team monthly. b. Knowledge management of campaigns resources and information – SharePoint and WeShare. c. Produce case studies on youth engagement. d. Supporting the implementation of the Youth Engagement Team capacity building strategy, including the development of webinars and workshops. e. Providing technical support for capacity building activities. f. Providing co-facilitation support for capacity building activities. g. Supporting the development of capacity building tools and resources.

3) Engagement with COs, ROs and Natcoms a. Supporting the Youth Engagement Team to compile information on CO, RO and NatComs initiatives around youth engagement. b. Coordination with Country Offices and National Committees on plans, activities and results. . c. Preparing and tracking correspondence with countries on other key Youth Engagement Team initiatives. d. Updating the collaboration tracker and contact lists. e. Updating the database on Youth Advocates. f. Co-facilitating meetings. g. Developing content for the Youth Engagement Team newsletter.

4) Supporting priority advocacy initiatives and campaigns a. As needed, providing coordination support for campaign activations and advocacy events through the development of invitations, event registration, RSVP tracking, supporting and coordinating participation of youth advocates. b. Supporting the development, coordination and implementation of WCD campaign, including strategic planning tools, campaign logistics and meeting schedules

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS (IF APPLICABLE) Standard UNICEF Performance Evaluations will be conducted every 6 months and at end of contract. The performance indicators for evaluation of results will be the quality and timeliness of outputs delivered by consultant.

DUTY STATION UNICEF NYHQ. The consultancy can be performed remotely but must be able to work NY hours.

TRAVEL (IF APPLICABLE) No travel is expected. In case of unforeseen official business travel, actual cost, including the visa fee, vaccination will be reimbursed in accordance with UNICEF Policy/procedure on official travel.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • • University degree (Bachelor’s) in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, International Relations, International Development, or another related field. • 3 years relevant experience in M&E, reporting, project management, knowledge management, capacity building, partnership management and event management, working with remote teams across time zones and cultures. • Strong skills in communication and strategic planning. • Fluency in English (both written and verbal) is required. Knowledge of an additional UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is considered an asset. • Experience in the field of youth engagement is considered an asset. • Ability to juggle competing priorities, whilst maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.
