The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) within the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy (DGCA) comprises Web Editorial, Social Media News and Campaigns, Digital Governance and Platforms teams working together to create compelling public-facing content and to provide digital services within the organization. Through multiple platforms and in multiple languages, the Digital Strategy Section draws attention to the many facets of UNICEF’s work, encouraging public support, participation and action, as well as ensuring greater transparency and accountability. Web stories, blog posts, photo essays, Facebook posts, Twitter campaigns, and videos for distribution via UNICEF.org, UNICEF Connect, YouTube, news media and other outlets and platforms are all a part of our digital storytelling.

DSS is also responsible for the build, management and maintenance of global website properties, as well as providing support to Country and Regional (field) Offices to maximize their use of global web platforms in their communications activities. This role is instrumental in ensuring our large and globally distributed user base has access to web platforms, and is supported to use these platforms to publish high quality content that is critical to their communications work.

Part of the Digital Platforms and Governance Team, our Creative Team tackles the front-end design for the global unicef.org ecosystem of websites by creating engaging user experiences, intuitive user interfaces and compelling editorial layouts that amplify UNICEF’s work for every child.

The Creative Team maintains an active roster of qualified candidates to be engaged when vacancies and additional capacity is needed; and is seeking candidates to be for this roster and for future consultancies.

How can you make a difference?

DSS seeks to hire a part-time/on-call Digital Platform Producer to provide the quality production of website pages, and to provide support quality assurance and testing on platform features and upgrades, throughout the UNICEF.org digital ecosystem.

Expected results: (measurable results)

The Digital Platform Producer will aid the Digital Governance and Platforms team in Quality Assurance and testing activities, including the formal testing (User Acceptance Testing) of product releases, and the implementation of new features, redirects, and other technical tasks within the UNICEF.org Drupal CMS.

The Digital Platform Producer will aid the Web Editorial (in English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Chinese) teams by producing to editorial specifications fully built out pages and sections in the UNICEF.org Drupal CMS.

Description of the assignment

The Digital Governance and Platforms plays a role in a variety of projects across the Digital Strategy Section (DSS), Division of Communication (DOC), and in collaboration with the Division of Information and Communication Technology (ITCD) and with other Divisions and Regional and Country offices. The Digital Platform Producer will play a role in several projects across these teams.

In practice, this plays out through the:

Delivery of testing results when performing UAT (User Acceptance Testing). The Digital Platform Producer will work with project managers to:

  • Understand the scope of the tests and expectations of the results.
  • Work within tight deadlines to perform testing.
  • Provide detailed reports on results.
  • Additional testing, documentation, and technical assistance within the platform as needed.

Delivery of editorial pages and sections. The Digital Platform Producer will work with project managers to: teams including the Creative Team, Digital Strategists, Subject Matter Experts, Editors and Writers, to:

  • Understand the scope and expectations from web copy, media assets, and page layouts of each unique project.
  • Fully enter all web copy, media assets, and lay out pages and sections to specification in the UNICEF.org Drupal CMS.
  • Deliver final pages for review and publishing.
  • Assist in the creation/editing of additional assets such as images, Infographics, and other editorial content.

In all scenarios, consultant is expected to support and create assets in all UNICEF digital supported languages (English, Arabic, French, Spanish, Chinese), although fluency is not expected.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Information Technology, or similar fields; 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Expert level experience in the Drupal CMS.
  • Working level experience in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Working knowledge of W3A Accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge working with multilingual sites is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage
