Contract

This is a Consultancy contract. More about Consultancy contracts.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, hope

Overview

UNICEF is organising a partnership event on children and young people’s rights in mid-2021 and is looking for an experienced event project manager to oversee and manage all aspects of the organisation.

Why?

It has been 30 years since the rights of children were enshrined into the first United Nations convention focused solely on children and young people – the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) became the most widely ratified United Nations convention in history. A lot has changed since the landmark of the CRC in 1989. Young people now make up 41 per cent of the world’s population; 25 per cent is under 15. But they are not equally spread across countries – the majority are in Africa and Asia. Their voices are seldom heard, making it easy to overlook their ideas, creativity and perspectives. These young voices may hold the fresh perspectives that ‘older thinking’ lacks. And when the world is struggling to make sense of this new normal, now would be a good time to take them seriously. Young people all over the world are recognizing the ‘old’ ways of doing things are unsustainable and increasingly destructive to our societies and the planet.

The consequences of the global pandemic will reverberate on children for years, having already rolled back hard-fought development gains. And yet it is proven that investment in childhood is an effective accelerator for much broader areas of better public health, social and economic development and security. Placing investment in childhood alongside broader political challenges would aim to leverage public demand and greater political will.

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF is looking for an event project manager to help deliver a high-level partnership event, aiming to put children’s voices at the heart of discussions, give key partners an important role in the way forward and to deliver powerful content and speakers.

MAIN TASKS

In preparation for the event and in coordination with the project team, the consultant will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Serve as the primary focal point for event preparations and tracking progress against the event timeline
  • Lead a small project team who will be responsible for delivering the event
  • Support and lead the agency leading on the virtual platform and delivery of the event
  • Venue and services: liaising with all vendors for venues and catering as needed (depending on the modalities of in-person and virtual event formats)
  • Event materials: Assist in the production of the agenda and refined concept note, presentations, and collateral;
  • Support the internal and external consultation and delivery teams, ensuring they are kept up to date with progress and decisions
  • Manage a swift decision-making and problem resolution process to keep progress on track

After the event:

  • Ensure there is a detailed evaluation process and lessons learned
  • Produce a final report with the agency, including recommendations for 2022 and beyond
