Job Description

Job Overview:

The Community Engagement Coordinator supports the successful integration of refugees, asylees, and other immigrants by leading programming that harnesses the power of welcoming communities. They collaborate with IRC staff to determine needs, coordinate community outreach, build effective relationships, and connect clients with community-based resources.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Support IRC office in creating and implement community coordination including organizing community members to work with local field offices and collaboratively serve clients

· Conduct outreach by following up on existing leads from individuals and community organizations; contact organizations who already support the office and develop new sponsorship opportunities through networking and research

· Support client input and collaboration into discussions with external partners

· Create tools, fact sheets, presentations, and templates to support community outreach and response related to programs

· Serve as the primary point of contact at IRC with local community members and groups. Provide initial orientation to participants and assist throughout the process by providing ongoing training and support to volunteers and groups. Support the resolution of any issues that may arise.

· Coordinate with direct service staff to ensure timely delivery and documentation of Placement and Assistance services for sponsored families, in accordance with funder guidelines

· Represent IRC at local meetings, seminars, forums, and other community outreach opportunities as needed.

· Collaborate with colleagues on the Resource Development team to amplify messaging about IRC’s work and how community members can support refugee and immigrant families.

· Work with the Community Engagement and Advocacy Manager to develop, implement, and document a strategy to build upon and sustain client and community engagement capacity and practices.

· Support the coordination of client collaboration and engagement initiatives, supporting the priority that clients have greater and more sustained influence over decisions that impact their lives. This could include but is not limited to coordinating the office’s advisory body and supporting program staff to include clients and communities in program design processes.

· Support fostering the inclusion of clients and client inputs into office strategy formulation, program development, and funding proposals.

· Assist with the collection and distribution of in-kind and monetary donations as needed.

· Use personal, insured vehicle and/or public transportation (where available) to travel and transport clients and materials as needed throughout the service delivery area.

· May train and lead the activities of volunteers and interns.

· Other duties as assigned.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Community Engagement and Advocacy Manager

Position directly supervises: Interns and volunteers within program

Indirect Reporting: Resettlement Manager in Tucson Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: IRC staff, interns and volunteers

External: Position helps coordinate services and is responsible for maintaining relationships with appropriate vendors and community partners

Job Requirements:

· Combination of education and experience normally represented by a bachelor’s degree in social work or human service field.

· 2-3 years of related professional experience.

· Prior volunteer or professional experience in community development or volunteer coordination strongly preferred.

· Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred.

· Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.

· Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.

· Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.

· Self-direction and initiative, when needed, to take the lead and to follow through to completion.

· Fluent in English, both spoken and written; ability to communicate in Dari, and Pashto is desired.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.

· Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment:

· A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.

· May require weekend and/or evening work.
