OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Strategic Communications is one of the priorities of the WHO Regional Director's “Vision 2023” for the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) and is an integrated part of the Department of Communications, Resource Mobilization and Partnership (CRP). The communications programme's Strategic Objective is to reinforce WHO's role as the trusted health authority, and to share evidence-based health information in the Region. The program's specific objectives are to: • Reach the public, donors, media and other stakeholders with accurate, timely and appealing information through traditional and innovative platforms to: ▪ promote WHO's impact and credibility as the leading voice for public health ▪ highlight heath needs across the region though human stories▪ communicate health risks and dispel misinformation. • Enhance WHO's capacity to communicate for health, foster partnerships with the media and other key stakeholders, and attract resources for strategic priorities• Reaffirm WHO staff's knowledge of and pride in the work of the Organization • Advise senior management on issues that affect WHO's reputation and credibility

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  1. Provide technical and operational support to planning, developing, and implementing a Regional Internal Communications strategy and corresponding plans to enhance the staff members' knowledge of and pride in the work of the Organization, and promote a staff culture of transparency, trust and shared accountability.2. Work closely with the WHO/EMRO Senior Management, Technical Departments, Staff Association and particularly with the Department of Business Operations and its concerned teams (e.g., Human Resources & Talent management (HRT), Business Technology Solutions (BTS), Staff Health and Wellbeing (SHW) to generate Internal Communication content about organizational priorities and develop materials to inform and engage relevant staff with right information. 3. Support WHO Country Offices in proactively communicating to the local workforce, by sharing/adapting global and regional internal information and materials, so that the ‘Internal Communications' content can be cascaded to colleagues Region wide.4. Develop, write, edit and design printed and electronic content (e.g Intranet stories, internal campaigns, newsletters, video materials, posters, flyers, infographics, etc) for WHO/EMRO's internal communication channels and platforms (e.g. Intranet pages, Workplace, Campaign Monitor, etc ), ensuring that they are newsworthy, staff oriented, accurate, accessible, updated, informative, engaging and aligned with WHO House Style, brand and accessibility guidelines. 5. Enhance the WHO/EMRO's “Intranet” platform through conducting capacity-building trainings on intranet tools, initiating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and developing/updating a Regional calendar of internal events. 6. Initiate and develop ideas for creative and informative ways to engage staff in corporate and/or public health issues of their interest and organize staff events and/or staff engagement campaigns.7. Monitor analytics and ensures robust measurement and evaluation of WHO's internal communications performance and engagement with key audiences. Applies lessons learnt to improve content, promote engagement and retain interest.8. Partner with other teams across the CRP Department as well as counterparts at WHO/HQ and other Regional Offices to ensure alignment, timeliness, quality and innovative approaches to internal communication products and approaches.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: A first-level university degree in communications, journalism, humanities, social sciences or a related field. Desirable: Training courses, studies or certifications in relevant fields such as internal communications, business management, health communications, digital media, social media, corporate branding, storytelling, etc.

Experience

Essential: At least five years' related experience, with international exposure, in producing communications materials, in support of an organization's visibility, internal affairs and impact as well as working as focal point for communications (preferably internal or corporate communications), including collaborating with technical units to showcase impact Desirable: Additional experience in the field or communications within an international environment (e.g.UN, International NGO, Multilateral Corporation, diplomatic missions, etc).

Skills

− Knowledge of internal communications strategies, tools and platforms including intranet content management and internal social networks such as Workplace. − Writing and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate on a proactive and self-managed basis.− Theoretical and practical knowledge of the principles and practices of communication, collaboration, knowledge transfer and training − Strong abilities to design, manage and coordinate staff events and internal communication campaigns to promote staff awareness and engagement. − Ability to acquire knowledge and information about a wide range of WHO/EMRO subject-matter fields, and to select, organize and present information in a manner suitable for the intended audience. − Ability to work with the media and senior level health officials in public and private sector and civil society, multiple stakeholders and professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds. − Ability to manage multiple issues and tasks in an organizational complex environment− Sound advocacy skills complemented by the ability to plan and evaluate situations and propose innovative communication options.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,120 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1874 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
