STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, International Development, Political Science, Social Science or other relevant field.

Experience: Three years of professional experience in a relevant field of work, including but not limited to international development, editing, publishing or journalism.

Language: Fluency (Level C) in English and Arabic. Other languages are an asset.

JOB PURPOSE

To support communications and information management activities including the creation of content, products and services aimed at enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation and creating a clear picture of operations for internal and external stakeholders.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Draft, edit and disseminate internal information products including reports, meeting minutes and ad hoc briefings, and manage internal information sharing mechanisms and templates.
  2. Support in the production of written materials including but not limited to situation reports, briefs, dashboards and case studies, to contribute to a better flow of information about WFP’s work to external stakeholders.
  3. Produce and support the timely and effective delivery of video and photo content, and manage the storage and distribution of audio-visual materials in accordance with relevant policies.
  4. Monitor traditional media, social media, and other data sources in order to prepare regular and ad hoc information products to enable informed decision-making.
  5. Prepare content for use on social media and digital platforms to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
  6. Assist in the procurement of visibility materials for activities and events, and serve as an information focal point to support publicity of WFP’s activities and events with colleagues, external partners and media.
  7. Support the capacity-building of WFP staff and partners within communications and information management, and liaise and interact with WFP staff to support aligned activities and a coherent approach to communications within WFP through proofreading and editorial support.
  8. Perform other duties as required.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills in English and Arabic.
  • Experience in graphic design, photography and digital asset management (DAM) systems.
  • Experience in social media monitoring and management.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task when faced with competing deadlines.
  • A sound understanding of communication techniques and activities, and awareness of the socio-political context in which WFP operates.

FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES

Media and Communication Expertise Collates accurate and timely information presented in required format (i.e. written or visual materials) as well as verbally, to enable information flows and informed decision making on communications issues. Specialised Knowledge in Communications Exhibits specalised technical knowledge of communications channels processes, tools and techniques. In immediate area of responsibility, provides support in developing written, visual, audio and multi-media content for communications materials and suggestions for improved communications processes. Sociopolitical Contextual Understanding Shows awareness of the multilateral/interagency environment and the dynamics in which WFP operates which informs approach to daily tasks. Communication Strategy and Planning Demonstrates sound understanding of WFP communications strategy and effectively implements tailored media and communications plans which support the delivery of the strategy.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • This Roster is open for Libyan nationals only or individuals holding a valid work and residency permit for Libya
  • Candidates will be selected through a competive process and placed in the Roster for future vacancies
  • SERVICE CONTRACT TERMS
  • The Service Contract is issued for 6 months initially (renewable)
