The SHS sector is responsible for promoting better public understanding of how intercultural collaboration between increasingly diverse communities can enable people to create and use knowledge for just, inclusive, resilient and democratic societies. To that end, the SHS sector is looking to expand the impact of its work as a knowledge hub by reaching wider external audiences through the reinforcement of its global communications plan. The purpose of this plan is to support the communication and outreach actions of the sector by developing assets and contents for the digital media, keeping updated social media and website channels, as well as any additional activities required to achieve this quest. Long Description ---------------- **Scope of the assignment:** In line with the communication guidelines of UNESCO, under the overall authority of the Assistant Director General for Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO and the Director of AI and Chief of Executive Office, In direct supervision of the Executive Officer and in close cooperation with the Front Office and Sections of the Social and Human Sciences sector, the selected communications consultant will work towards the execution of the SHS communications global plan, supporting sections to develop and implement suitable communication approaches, and incorporate feedback received from the sections. Following SHS communication priorities, and incorporating feedback from colleagues and supervisors: 1\. Contribute to the coordination of social media messaging for the Assistant Director-General (ADG) of Social and Human Sciences, mainly in English, French and Spanish. 2\. Write / edit / translate / disseminate texts for the web, media and other purposes (e.g. draft press releases, media advisories, interviews, feature stories, web articles) and any other required material, mainly in English, French and Spanish, on the basis of feedback received by the ADG and the FO. 3\. Collaborate in the organization, development and implementation of communication and social media campaigns for SHS events and activities, including International Days under SHS’ responsibility. 4\. Coordinate the update of the SHS Table of events and SHS Events in the UNESCO Calendar of Events, including planification and follow-up of communication actions for upcoming high-level events. 5\. Contribute to the updating and online publication of SHS web content according to needs. 6\. Help develop new communication-related products or use different communication channels. 7\. Any additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the work of the SHS/EO Team and the Social and Human Sciences Sector. Long Description ---------------- **Professional experience and skills: Cross-cutting** • Knowledge of InDesign, Adobe Photoshop or similar design software packages. • Experience in management of communications, with a focus on social media platforms. • Experience in conducting activities or projects at local and international level. • Experience working in web content coordination, communication strategy and communication campaigns, including the use of social media messaging. • Familiarity/experience with UN/multilateral organizations. • Excellent knowledge of English and Spanish. • Excellent drafting skills in English and Spanish. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including interacting with various actors and working effectively and respectfully in a multicultural environment. **Quantitative** • Relevant professional experience in providing technical assistance and support on project activities, particularly on communications and social media. **Qualitative** • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing communication strategies • Proven understanding and experience working on issues related to UNESCO’s Social and Human Science mandate • Communication skills adapted for general purposes **SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS** ------------------------------------- Interested candidates should click on “Apply Now”, then download and complete the Employment History form (Word file).
