You have:

  • Be enrolled or have graduated with a university degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications or related field.
  • A first-level university degree in international relations, political science, or international law is an asset.
  • Work experience in human rights, journalism, communications, public relations or events planning.
  • Graphic design skills for social media content is an asset.
  • Excellent written and spoken English is required.
  • Knowledge of French and Portuguese an asset.

Online Volunteers will support the OHCHR Regional Office for Southern Africa in fulfilling its mission: contribute to implementation of the Regional Office’s Communication and Outreach Strategy; and Strengthen engagement with OHCHR’s constituency; enhance stakeholders’ engagement and increase awareness on human rights issues.

Online Volunteers will develop a work plan with their supervisor, taking into account their skills and experience. Responsibilities will include (but not limited) to: Develop content for social media and develop social media plans; Support internal and external communication, including the preparation of newsletters, contributions to UN magazines, human interest stories, articles and weekly/monthly updates; Develop and produce web content for the regional office; Supporting the regional offices outreach initiatives, including supporting the hosting of webinars and virtual meetings; Building relationships with conventional media, facilitate and prepare the office media engagements; Strengthen relationships and partnerships with other UN communications professionals in the region; Support media monitoring, strengthen media monitoring platform, and input into human rights updates and risk analysis.
