Online Volunteers will develop a work plan with their supervisor, taking into account their skills and experience. Responsibilities will include (but not limited to) to: Develop content for social media and develop social media plans; Support internal and external communication, including the preparation of newsletters, contributions to UN magazines, human interest stories, articles and weekly/monthly updates; Develop and produce web content for the regional office; Supporting the regional offices outreach initiatives, including supporting the hosting of webinars and virtual meetings; Building relationships with conventional media, facilitate and prepare the office’s media engagements; Strengthen relationships and partnerships with other UN communications professionals in the region; Support media monitoring, strengthen media monitoring platform, and input into human rights updates and risk analysis.

Online Volunteers will support the OHCHR Regional Office for Southern Africa in fulfilling its mission: contribute to implementation of the Regional Office’s Communication and Outreach Strategy; and Strengthen engagement with OHCHR’s constituency; enhance stakeholders’ engagement and increase awareness on human rights issues.

20+ hours per week / 26 weeks
Be enrolled or have graduated with a university degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications or related field. A first-level university degree in international relations, political science, or international law is an asset.Work experience in human rights, journalism, communications, public relations or events planning. Graphic design skills for social media content is an asset.Excellent written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of French and Portuguese an asset.
