The current Ukrainian crisis had a significant impact on the lives of children and families in communities throughout the country. According to official statistics, around 1.2 million refugees have been registered in Poland. Around 50% of them are children under 18 years and around 75% of them are women and children. UNICEF has established an emergency response office in Poland and initiated a cooperation agreement with the national and municipality authorities and local NGOs to provide crisis support to the Ukrainian Refugees.
How can you make a difference?
The Communication and Social and Behavior Change Officer NO2 reports to the Team Leader in Gdansk or Krakow, under the technical guidance of the Chief of Communication and the Chief of SBC who are based in Warsaw. They will support the systematic, and planned implementation, as well as the development of, the office’s evidence-based strategy for communication, advocacy and SBC. They will also play an integral part in programme development, planning and implementation at the local level. By doing so they will help get children’s and women’s issues into the public domain, strengthen political will in support of UNICEF's mission and objectives in the country, and enhance the organization’s credibility and brand as well as creating demand for essential services and engage affected populations. This will contribute to the achievement of sustainable and concrete results in improving children’s rights, survival and wellbeing in the country.
Summary of key functions/accountabilities:
- Support the outposted teams in Gdansk/Krakow and respective municipalities in implementing the communication and SBC components of joint workplans in line with UNICEF communication/SBC strategy
- Support the design and development of the office’s communication and SBC strategies
- Support the implementation and documentation of communication, advocacy and SBC activities at the local level
- Advocacy, networking and partnership building
- Events, visits and content creation
As a champion for every child…
- A university degree in one of the following fields is required: social and behavioral science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, education, communication, public relations or another relevant technical field.
- A minimum of two years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: social development programme planning, communication for development, public advocacy or another related area.
- Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
- Fluency in English and Polish is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

This position is classified as temporary and does not carry any expectancy of renewal and will not be converted to any other type of appointment.
UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
