The overarching goal of the UNICEF Strategic Plan, 2018–2021 is to realize the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged. The plan establishes five goal areas aimed at making sure that every child: 1) survives and thrives; 2) learns; 3) is protected from violence and exploitation; 4) lives in a safe and clean environment; and 5) has an equitable chance in life. The Strategic Plan, which is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and their vision of achieving a world in which no one is left behind, also calls on UNICEF to strengthen its humanitarian response and work towards gen-der equity.

In link with UNICEF Ghana Country program which is aligned to the UNICEF strategic plan, the vol-unteer will support C4D package in support to UNICEF humanitarian prepardeness and response as specified in the approved emergency preparedness plan (EPP). When supporting the country pro-gram, UNV will be guided by UNICEF's Core Commitments for Children in Emergencies (CCC) for C4D, UNICEF's Behaviour Change Communication in Emergencies and the country context and ex-perience.

Under the supervision of C4D Specialist and Chief of Tamale Field Office, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

•Support local stakeholders to coordinate emergency preparesness/response and community engagements at sub-national levels. •Provide inputs for and support the development of emergency preparedness and community engagement strategies, costed plans of action and other relevant documents. •Support rapid surveys and other research around knowledge and perceptions and generation of critical data to inform SBCC actions. •Contribute to and support the design, development, pre-testing, production and dissemination of relevant RCCE materials. •Contribute to the development and organization of SBCC training/orientation activities at sub-national levels and support C4D capacity building of local stakeholders.
•Develop strong partnerships with key stakeholders - community groups, leaders and other partners in the community, local government and civil society. •Support the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of SBCC programme activities. •Put in place an approach to reach special populations (hard-to-reach population, travellers, etc.) in the targeted areas. •Collect regular field data to assess project results and impacts on C4D strategies and activities for analysis and improvement of measurable behavioral and social change in interventions. Support the documentation of lessons learned and best practices. •Support programme sectors in identifying the needs of programmes, developing IEC materials as and when appropriate. •The UNV will respond to other needs of C4D section and Field Office

Experience social and behaviour change communication, social mobilization, community en-gagement, communication for development, or other related communication areas in context of communication in support to humanitarian responses. •A research background or proven experience with collecting and using data for designing evidence based behaviour change strategies. •Proficient in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; •Exposure to UNICEF, UN or other INGO or CSOs programmatic areas, including (but not limited to) health, nutrition, child protection WASH, education, P&E, M&E and experience in applying SBCC and/or technical solutions to address programmatic issues, an asset •Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; •Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; •Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; •Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; •Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; •Sound security awareness; •Have affinity with or interest in children’s rights and wellbeing, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

The incumbent will be based in Tamale, Ghana which is relatively safe location and currently classi-fied as hardship category B. Transport, medical, education and other services are acceptable in the city Accommodation can be rented from 300$ to 500$ per month and meals at restaurants cost be-tween 10$ and 60$. Food, household commodities and clothing can be found in shops and markets at reasonable prices. English is the official language in Ghana, however, several local languages are spoken and for many people, their local language is their first language.
