Oversee Child Protection activities and support field implementation.

You have:

  • Master’s degree in psychology, Social Work or other related studies
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the Child Protection field
  • At least two years of experience working with international NGOs
  • Experience in Psycho Social Support programming and community mobilisation
  • Ability to write weekly and monthly reports
  • Experience in team leading and handling programmes action plans

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Child Protection Officer will be in charge of the daily follow up of the Child Protection activities, provide support to implementing partners and lead the direct implementation in the field. The Child Protection programme includes the establishment and expansion of psychosocial programming with children and youth and capacity building and support for caregivers. The Child Protection Officer should ensure that all aspects of work are undertaken in accordance with Save the Children’s Policies

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Programme implementation/management

  • Liaise with the line manager to identify project’s priorities, develop and lead the implementation of project’s monthly and weekly work plans.
  • Ensure that team members understand their weekly priorities; provide guidance and support to direct reports as needed to accomplish the tasks.
  • Liaise with Supply chain, Finance and HR to ensure sufficient support to field activities.
  • lead the implementation of the needs assessment interviews. under the supervision and the support of the Programme Manager and the Programme Coordinator.
  • Monitor progress and solve issues that are interrupting the implementation of activities.

Programme design/development

  • Ensure that SC accountability systems are followed by field staff
  • Conduct field visits to ensure that the quality standards are met throughout the implementation phase
  • Produce weekly and monthly quantitative and qualitative reports for internal use.
  • Ensure that programme interventions continue to be informed by and integrated with other core sectors in Save the Children, such as Education, Shelter, and Food Security and Livelihoods

Team management and capacity building

  • Provide technical and organizational training and coaching to direct reports
  • With the support of the project coordinator, identify staffing needs based on the implementation and the latest situation.
  • Lead and be part of the recruitment of new direct reports.
  • identify staff capacity building needs with the support of the programme coordinator,
  • Ensure that all direct reports have clear performance and development objectives.
  • Partnerships management
  • provide daily support to partners’ staff by providing technical and operational support under the supervision and with the support of the programme coordinator,
  • Monitor partners’ activities implementation and ensure that high quality implementation standards are applied, by using quality benchmarks and other quality monitoring tools
  • Verify partners’ report by validating them against SC internal reporting mechanisms
  • conduct training for partners’ staff under the supervision of the programme coordinator,
  • External relationships/Representation
  • Ensure activities are developed in coordination with relevant local authorities and key stakeholders.
  • General
  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in psychology, Social Work or other related studies
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English;

Or bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of professional experience.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • At least 3 years’ experience in the Child Protection field;
  • At least two years of experience working with international NGOs;
  • Experience in Psycho Social Support programming and community mobilisation;
  • Ability to write weekly and monthly reports; and
  • Experience in team leading and handling programmes action plans;

Desirable

Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
