Job Description

Background: The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future.

Scope of Service: The Capacity Building AmeriCorps will engage in activities to increase the number of volunteers and the amount of volunteer support available to clients and staff as well as support resource development initiatives including in-kind donations. This position reports to the Development Manager.

Responsibilities:

•Research potential new channels of volunteer recruitment

•Review current community and volunteer educational presentations and suggest updates and improvements

•Assist with the delivery of educational presentations to diverse audiences of community partners, faith communities and potential volunteers

•Develop and implement plan to increase the number of active volunteers supporting IRC clients especially in the areas of social and economic self-sufficiency and English language learning

•Learn how to use IRC’s Salesforce volunteer and donation management software and assist with data entry and running reports

•Attend regular Volunteer Coordination Community of Practice discussions and professional development meetings such as the Greater Richmond Association of Volunteer Administrators

•Communicate with potential donors and coordinate in-kind donation delivery to the IRC’s Resettlement Store

•Participate in all program meetings, development activities, and other meetings as needed

Qualifications

•Prior experience in public speaking or conducting presentations in front of groups

•Strong communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English

•Demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment

•Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

•Must have a valid driver’s license and consistent access to reliable transportation

•Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident and authorized to work in the U.S.

•Must be at least 18 years old

•Must commit to one full year of service

Upon completion of service, AmeriCorps member will be eligible for an education award of approx. $6,895.

Proposed activities will be supported, in part, with federal funds from the AmeriCorps State program subgranted through the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia Department of Social Services. Activities are contingent upon funding availability and award from AmeriCorps.
