Digital Transformation Services, Technology Division @ WFP

That means even stronger emergency responses, getting closer to Zero Hunger, building the partnerships to make that possible, and making our operations simpler and more efficient every step of the way. This shift in digital gears is forcing us to evaluate how we can enable all our staff to do their best work (wherever they are), how far and how fast we can leverage the latent power of technologies across 80 countries where we operate, and how we can do all of that without compromising security, human rights or UN values in any way. So, it’s against this backdrop that the Digital Transformation Services team aims to continue our progress in deploying technological solutions at scale and continuing to embrace the power of data across all our policies, programmes and operations.   • This role reports to the Chief of Digital Transformation Services and will manage a team of 5 professionals.
  • The Digital Transformation Services team aims to live the culture change it is working to bring across the organization with flatter structures, transparency, empowered teams and an agile way of operating.
  • The key focus areas this team works on are: Business-Technology Alignment, Data Programme, Automation and Application Ecosystem.

THE ROLE

In this role you will be responsible for owning the SAP Landscape and code asset for the Digital Transformation Team as part of WFP Technology Division, and will need to define and drive the strategy for all custom development and enhancement to standard programs for SAP-based applications used globally across the business domains that the team supports.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Define and implement the SAP strategy based on the approved ERP Roadmap for the development of software and ensure that it is followed and applied: Ensure that the development design process is consistent across all SAP teams and that existing knowledge is leveraged during new design. Ensure that all code developed is reviewed and that continual optimisation is delivered. Partner with the WFP Core Team and the WFP Application Delivery Team to be leading the future skills required for WFP Software Development – Cloud, API first, new languages, open-source development.

  • Own delivery of SAP development solutions for all WFP systems pertaining to the ERP/SAP Team: Provide digital technical skills/resources for design, development & support of solutions. Liaise with strategic partners to ensure that suitable resources are available, with a focus on developing offshore capabilities, and maintaining them in teams to ensure continuity where possible.

  • Own the support services for all SAP-related custom development: Establish and provide support for new implementations. Manage the interaction between the delivery teams and the support teams in both directions to ensure that issues discovered in support are integrated into delivery procedure to avoid the same mistakes being repeated.

  • Minimise custom development: Ensure that any business needs that drive a requirement for customisation of standard application code are strongly challenged. Monitor the level of customisation to drive a lower level of custom code whenever possible to minimise the maintenance debt and risk to the products during future upgrades.

  • Ensure compliance to SAP standards and best practice code development processes: Ensure compliance to standards for review of technical design and build provided by strategic supplier groups. Ensure that solutions provided by suppliers are in line with guidelines for high quality and audit compliant. R&D about new SAP technologies that could benefit WFP and drive the adoption of these new practises and technologies.

  • Learn and utilize Agile methodology by applying it to SAP development and become champion of Agile.

  • Keep abreast of the strategic direction, profile, environment and needs of the business holistically to identify initiatives or core business process improvements with enabling technologies that allow the business to meet its goals.

  • Define and utilize techniques for eliciting, understanding, analyzing, documenting, validating and communicating business objectives, needs, requirements and process flows to ensure common understanding, agreement and prioritization between stakeholders.

  • Manage and motivate a team of staff, providing coaching, training and guidance to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY REQUIEREMENTS

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience, in providing SAP-based services/solutions within an international Organization and proven record of accomplishment in ERP Development, Configuration and Administration;
  • Strong ERP experience with multiple system implementations on a Global scale;
  • Solid knowledge of SAP-based programming languages and tools, including but not limited to ABAP, Object-oriented ABAP, SAP NetWeaver, SAP Fiori, SAP UI5, SAP Process Integration (PI), SAP Enterprise Portal (EP), SAP Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC), and SAP Solution Manager (GSM);
  • Track record of implementing and delivering SAP-based Solutions to a regulated & validated environment;
  • Experience partnering with third-party Vendors and System Integrators, particularly off-shore Suppliers;
  • Experience of development in an agile environment;
  • Excellent people-management skills;
  • Flexibility to work with people from various backgrounds and geographic locations.

EDUCATION & LANGUAGES

Education

Advanced university degree in Computer Science, IT Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Economics or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience or trainings/courses.

Languages

Fluency (level C) in English language.

Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Non-Rotational Nature: mobility is and continues to be a core contractual requirement in WFP. This position is however classified as “non-rotational” which means the incumbent shall not be subject to the regular reassignment process unless the position is reclassified as rotational.

WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package, including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days’ annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, pension plan and medical insurance.
