JOB PURPOSE

To ensure effective and efficient support to the implementation of the school meals programme, its guidelines and framework and to ensure maximum effects of the programme for the Lebanese and Syrian school children assisted.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The post is based in Beirut Country Office (CO). The incumbent reports to the Programme Policy Officer (School Feeding)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer in the School Meal Programme team, the Programme Assistant will perform the following tasks:

• Monitor and review the implementation of the school feeding programme at the local level, in close collaboration with the implementing partner/s. • Oversee the efficient distribution of food items at the schools and/or ensure and verify proper distribution of entitlements and provide feedback to Field Officers and others on the distribution. • Plan and conduct periodic meetings with the different school feeding programme stakeholders (schools, students, parents, etc.) to monitor the program and identify areas for improvement. • Participate in the review of the school feeding modalities and ensure innovation in the development of the programme and as the programme moves to scale. • Input and report on the regular programme’s figures and numbers on relevant platforms. • Assist in the review and identification of programme modality options that meet the objectives (keeping in mind gender sensitivity) while maximizing the use of resources necessary for bringing the programme to scale. • Assist in the review and development of nutrition education/awareness materials suitable for school children and parents, respectively. • Liaise with the different UN agencies and partner NGOs as needed. • Assist in the implementation of the Unit’s workplan, review achievements and constraints and provide inputs accordingly. • Liaise with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, as necessary, with regards to the data needs of the school feeding programme (enrolment and attendance data). • Perform other tasks as needed.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. University degree in social sciences, (i.e., Public Health, NGO management, economics, community/economic development), or other related fields like food security and nutrition.

Experience: At least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience with at least one (1) year experience in the field of development programming, humanitarian assistance, refugee operation, program administration, government work, or related fields.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic. Knowledge of French language is an added advantage.

• Experience in program implementation • Ability to maintain regular, well organized, and accurate records • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced working environment • Proactivity and ability to facilitate discussions and coordinate tasks with multiple units • Effective communication skills • Proficient in MS Office tools (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Powerpoint), internet search and mapping software • Experience in WFP, Government, or large NGO programming is a plus
