This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Political Affairs Officer, Peace & Reconciliation Office (PRO), the National Youth UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Support PRO's work on the Afghanistan peace process, including Women, Peace and Security and women's and youth participation in peace processes.
  • Help advance PRO's engagements with non-governmental and civil society organisations working on peace and reconciliation.
  • Establish collaborative working relations with counterparts throughout the UNAMA HQ substantive sections and the UNAMA Field Offices, particularly those working on women and youth engagement, as well as with Afghan and international partners.
  • Assist the Peace & Reconciliation Office in any other areas of work, as requested.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in political science, international relations, social sciences, law, public administration, or a related field

Required experience:

12 Months

Experience remark:

Experience in the areas of peace and conflict resolution at national or local levels; women, peace and security; youth engagement; and/or working in international or non-governmental org

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Dari(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise:
