(Associate) Operations Officer

Description

IFC—a member of the World Bank Group—is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. We work in more than 100 countries, using our capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities in developing countries. In fiscal year 2021, IFC committed a record $31.5 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries, leveraging the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity as economies grapple with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information, visit www.ifc.org.

IFC has embarked on an ambitious new strategy to stimulate more investment activity by Creating Markets, including in Low Income Countries (LICs) and Fragile and Conflict Situations (FCS). This new strategy requires a shift in our approach to proactively create, deepen, and expand markets and projects rather than waiting for clients to propose projects for IFC to finance. This strategy also relies on upstream work with Governments and World Bank colleagues to enable private sector solutions and financing. We call this approach the “Cascade.” Working with clients, we will first seek private sector solutions to address development challenges, where such solutions are advisable and can be effective, and reserve public financing for projects only when other options are suboptimal.

IFC is currently looking for a dynamic, adaptable, high performing Operations Officer to support reporting and analytic work in the Operations Management Department. This role is for a highly motivated professional with a good understanding of the IFC, its organization and its mission. This appointment involves extensive interaction with Senior Management at every level, including reporting and analytics work for the IFC Managing Director’s office and the Senior Vice President of Operations. It also involves deep collaboration across the institution, in Operations and in Finance, and with the World Bank and MIGA.

The Operations Officer will report to the Manager of Reporting, Analytics and IDD Research and will work closely with manager and teams on corporate deliverables.

Core Duties and Accountabilities:

• Coordinate delivery of reporting and analytical work for IFC Management and ensure timely responses to ad-hoc requests received by COMRA.

• Provide regular (weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual) reports and analyses on Operations to the IFC Management and to key stakeholders.

• Review reporting products in context of organizational changes/focus to assess relevance and needed enhancements, including automation, reduction in manual data collection processes, and/or identification of unmet reporting needs.

• Lead complex projects including drafting of briefing notes and presentations as requested by the Manager of COMRA and/or the Director of COMDR.

• Liaise with Operations SVP front office and MD front offices; liaise with colleagues in the other divisions within OMD on tasks that cut across the department and the Operations VPU.

• Compile and analyze data to support decision-making and analytics on issues such as program performance, operational pipeline, and performance data, to support the Management Team of Operations VPU.

• Work with IT on initiatives that improve reporting and analytics processes, create innovative capabilities, and promote automation and reduction in manual data collection and processes.

• Engage and coordinate work with multiple stakeholders across VPUs and operational support functions (results, strategy, finance) on information needs and reporting products, help with alignment of priorities, resolution of conflicts and actively participate in respective network meetings and/or working groups.

• Promote a collaborative, productive environment in the division and across the department, including through leading or participating in working groups, committees, and other initiatives to support achievement of the division and department’s objectives.

• Follow-up on regular requests such as inputs to for Board and Committee meetings or for IFC Management meetings.

• Support ad-hoc assignments and provide support to other team members when they face peak load. Liaise with colleagues in other OMD divisions on cross-cutting tasks.

• Support innovation in reporting and analytics space and identify new opportunities to leverage data science and generate valuable insights and analytical products.
