Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

The national UN Volunteer Associate Health Economist will support the WHO incumbent health economist in undertaking the following tasks:

• Participate in the undertaking of economic analysis of health financing policies and strategies including assessing, designing and monitoring of National Health Insurance in the assigned country in line with WHO orientation and framework on Universal Health coverage.
• Undertake economic analysis to generate evidence for advancing policies and programs in a selected disease control program.
• Contribute to strengthening capacity of health economic analysis and provide training programs.
• Review and assess national health information systems and recommend methods for improvement of data collection and national health accounts.
• Support research in health economics carried out with national teams and/or contracted out to research institutions.
• Promote WHO policies, programs and guidelines in health financing through analysis of health care financing strategies aimed at providing recommendations for improving health care financing.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

• University or postgraduate degree in Health Economics, Health Financing, Management, Economics or Public Health.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

• Very good knowledge of health system strategies and policies relevant to the objective of extending health coverage with quality affordable health services.
• Analytical skills in Health Economics and Health Care Financing.
• Very good experience in MS office and statistical analysis packages.
• Knowledge in drafting and producing effective policy relevant information products, reports briefs, discussion papers, etc.
• Very good communication skills, time management and team work.
• Fluent in English and Arabic Language.
