APAN Communications Expert
Result of Service 1.Lead the development and implementation of strategic communication plans in line with UNEP’s corporate communication policies; 2.Lead the management of all web-related contents, particularly undertaking thorough website maintenance and content updates; 3.Produce and disseminate various communications products and activities, including, but not limited to: print publications, web stories, press kits, social media posts, banners and flyers, brochures, infographics and multimedia products. Liaise with designers when required; 4.Contribute to learning and knowledge sharing including through organizing webinars, facilitating online discussions and building a community of practices. Contribute to design, conceptualization, development, testing and roll-out of knowledge products and tools; 5.Lead the conceptualization, development, testing, design and roll-out of knowledge products and tools; 6.Provide editing and technical copywriting support for key knowledge products and communications materials, with an eye toward ensuring not only quality products but also consistent application of APAN branding, key messages, and relevant corporate style guidelines; 7.Liase with Regional Office communication team, GAN communication team and AP-PLAT team on sharing adaptation related knowledge and information; 8.Identify opportunities to promote programme knowledge outputs and stories through other channels, including social media, other UN platforms, media outreach, etc.; 9. Provide support for other communication activities as required.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
UNEP’s Asia and the Pacific Office geographically serves 41 countries across the region to promote and implement sustainable development solutions. It assists countries of the region pursue sustainability, particularly in their implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development including technical expertise, facilitating access to finance, undertaking cutting-edge science-policy assessments, offering advisory services and strengthening laws, policies, management and governance. UNEP works with national and local authorities, civil society, other UN organizations, research institutions and the private sector to catalyze the efficient use of the region’s natural assets and reduce the degradation of the environment.
The Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN), developed and launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) in 2009 under the Global Adaptation Network (GAN), is the first regional adaptation network. Its secretariat is hosted by the UNEP ROAP.
APAN is an open network that strives to equip adaptation actors in the region with knowledge for designing and implementing adaptation measures, building capacity to access technologies and finance, and integrating climate change adaptation into policies, strategies, and plans towards building climate change resilient and sustainable human systems, ecosystems, and economies. APAN has established close partnerships with key sub-regional organizations and has become an important adaptation knowledge mobilizer in Asia and the Pacific region.
APAN is seeking a dedicated communications expert to lead all APAN communication activities and provide support to the APAN secretariat in articulating results, outreach and ensure visibility of APAN. The communications expert will have experience working in areas of environment/climate change.
Qualifications/special skills Skills: - Strong team-working skills, ability to prioritize and manage tasks - A combination of excellent problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to work in a fast-paced, multitasking environment - Proficiency with graphic design software - Media management knowledge is an asset Academic Qualifications: University degree in graphic design, computer sciences, IT, visual arts, media, communications and any other relevant studies. Experience: Required: - Minimum 5 years of working experience in knowledge management and communications, preferably in areas of environment/climate change; - Prior experience in implementing communications strategies, developing print and digital content; - Experience in producing briefings, case studies, infographics and other products to facilitate communication of complex environmental issues to a variety of audiences; - Experience in writing stories, briefs and producing web content; - Proficiency with Wordpress and other CMS types; - Experience with webinar software platforms
Desirable: - Experience in social media accounts management; - Experience with newsletter tools Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage
