Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. With presently 194 member states, FAO works in more than 130 countries worldwide, including Vietnam, where the Organization has operated since 1978. The current Country Programming Framework (CPF) for the period of 2022‑2025 has four priority areas: (1) One Health (OH); (2) Climate change response, environment and natural resources management; (3) Food safety, sustainable production and consumption, and equitable livelihoods for all; and (4) Governance, Gender and PWDs. The incumbent’s tasks will mainly contribute to the fourth priority area.

Reporting Lines

The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative in Viet Nam, under the direct supervision of the ECTAD Senior Technical Coordinator of the Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Disease (ECTAD) in Viet Nam, and in close collaboration with FAO Viet Nam and relevant government partners.

Technical Focus

Animal Health

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Assist the Department of Animal Health (DAH) to gather animal health information from 63 provinces
  • Report animal disease events and manage animal diseases database on the Viet Nam Animal Health Information System (VAHIS)
  • Support DAH IT and Epidemiology team to develop active surveillance, disease free establishment, and wildlife disease reporting modules in VAHIS
  • Develop technical guidelines on animal disease outbreak responses including investigation, containment, vaccination, etc.
  • Support animal disease situation analysis and development of animal diseases situation update communication materials
  • Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine;
  • At least 2 years of relevant working experience in collection and analysis of animal diseases information;
  • Working knowledge (level C) and excellent writing skills in both English and Vietnamese;
  • National or Resident of Viet Nam.
