ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These positions are based in WFP Country Office Islamabad, Pakistan (UNHAS) and incumbents will report to the Aviation Officer.

Job holders typically specialise in either air transport or air movement, and at this level they work under minimal supervision taking responsibility for completion of a range of processes and activities requiring some interpretation of standard guidelines/practices. Job holders are able to recommend straightforward courses of action to staff, and may allocate tasks and support other staff.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide and/or oversee a range of coordination, administration and technical activities that support the delivery of a safe and effective Air Service to the humanitarian community

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. In respect to his/her service management responsibilities, the Air Movement Assistant will monitor, supervise, and guide the Ground Handling Staff as instructed by the Aviation Officer/Supervisor for smooth and effective operation. 2. He/she will maintain a close liaison with GHA and Airport Authorities on behalf of UNHAS as directed by supervisor. 3. He/she will ensure implementation of SOPs and Check List devised by UNHAS with respect to Ground Handling Activities. 4. He/she will ensure through physical presence the implementation of procedures to assist and facilitate UNHAS passengers, especially transit passengers through GHA staff all time. 5. He/she will perform as UNHAS representative to overlook GH staff to meet and assist all incoming and outgoing transit passengers of UNHAS with close coordination with ASF, Immigration, Custom and CAA staff. 6. He/she will ensure that all relevant documents to the timely and smooth flights are available the GHA and passed on to all relevant Airport Staff. 7. He/she will maintain a logbook in respect of all suggestions/recommendations or complaints of UNHAS passengers for the senior UNHAS authorities for appropriate measures to avoid recurrence. 8. He/she will maintain close liaison with Lost & Found department to ensure timely recovery of lost luggage of UNHAS passengers. 9. He/she will guide and monitor the arrival/departure of UNHAS transit passengers on International Flights through optimum utilisation of Duty Staff of GHA. 10.Stand for Aviation Officer as and when required and assist in performance of duties. 11.Assist and guide all passengers for embarkation/disembarkation with the help of GHA for smooth and safe operation. 12.He/she will ensure all ground/air safety measures especially preventive measures of COVID-19. 13.He/she will ensure all relevant assistance to Air Operators/Crew in performance of their duties at the Airside/Landside. 14.He/she will monitor and assist Aviation Officer in Flight Following/ Aircraft Movement through positive communication with all concern. 15.He/she will perform any other assignment/task in relation to Air Operation assigned by CATO/DCATO irrespective of responsibilities defined.

Aviation Performance Measurement & Quality Control Demonstrates commitment to carrying out individual activities related to aviation in compliance with WFP's operating standards to make safe and responsible decisions within own scope of work. Specialized Technical Knowledge in Aviation, Safety and Security Uses aviation systems to monitor operational, safety and security issues in WFP’s aviation services such as airlift and airdrop operations, evacuation flights, and other chartered flight operations.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. Post-secondary certificate in air traffic control, flight dispatch, aeronautical engineering or related field is essential for Air Operations roles, desirable for Air Movement roles. Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

Minimum of 4-5 years’ experience in the field of Aviation related responsibilities such as Flight Operation, Traffic/Briefing Counter, Customer Care/Service in Airline/Ground Handling/CAA.

Good interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment and to maintain effective working relations with people of different nationalities and cultural background.
