Adult Education Coordinator
Job Overview: The IRC NY Adult Education Coordinator implements education programming for adults served by the New York resettlement office by coordinating adult education programming including English language learning opportunities, Cultural Orientation Workshops, and College and Career Readiness for adults seeking to pursuit either a high school diploma or college degree. The Adult Education Coordinator teaches a regular English classes and Cultural Orientations in addition to training and managing instructors also teaching these courses.
The Adult Education Coordinator supports a team of skilled volunteers (teachers, advisors, administrative assistants) to ensure high quality delivery of all education programs. They work closely with the colleagues to ensure that the overall office and Education & Learning team goals and objectives are accomplished using a holistic, collaborative approach, in partnership with partner organizations, parents, and refugee youth themselves.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND SERVICE DELIVERY
- Ensure IRC’s adult education programs are aligned with IRC Strategy; develop and implement monitoring and evaluation tools aligned with IRC’s Outcomes and Evidence Framework - Guide the provision of adult English Language learning opportunities: - Coordinate with resettlement team to implement effective Cultural Orientation classes for newly arrived refugees, including quality of content and instruction, client attendance and appropriate language interpretation - Coordinate College and Career Readiness programming for adults including those seeking high school diplomas and college degrees. - Participate in strategic development and design of programs to support the educational and emotional well-being of newcomer adults - Identify and engage with relevant community partners and universities to support IRC’s education and learning programs - Maintain up-to-date, accurate data for adult education programs including case notes, attendance, assessments, and survey responses. - Support in reporting for internal and external purposes
STAFF AND VOLUNTEER SUPERVISION
- Participate in IRC network-wide initiatives to understand and share best-practices relating to adult education, cultural orientation, and youth programming. - Recruit, train, orient, monitor, and evaluate staff performance as needed. - Orient, train and supervise volunteers and interns to support education and learning programs for adults. - Other duties as assigned.
· Minimum of two years teaching experience (with youth and/or adults) required, preferably with English language learners
· Minimum of one year supervisory experience (interns/volunteers/staff), preferably in a non-profit or community-based setting
· Experience working with adult learners from a variety of cultural and linguistic groups highly desired
· Experience in public education setting highly preferred
· Experience with refugee and/or immigrant populations highly preferred
· Experience designing student-centered, thematic-based curriculum and developing monitoring and evaluation systems highly desired
· Experience in college access programming and familiarity with the CUNY system highly desired

· Must be comfortable interacting with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook; ability to use the internet and other resources for research and problem-solving purposes
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in education, social work or a relevant field highly desired.
Language Skills: Ability to read, write and speak English fluently is required. Fluency in one of the languages of populations served is highly desired (Arabic, Persian, Dari, French, Urdu, or Spanish)
Certificates or Licenses: Teaching and/or TESOL/ESL certification highly desired.
· A combination of standard office environment and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
· May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
