This position is placed in the GAVI Accounting Unit (GAU) of the Financial Management Centre in UNICEF’s Supply Division. GAU is responsible for financial management of ca. $1.5 billion annual GAVI procurement services operations focused on procurement of vaccines and vaccine related supplies for GAVI eligible countries.

The Accounts Assistant will support the Accounting Officer who is responsible for ensuring that the financial accounting and reporting of the transactions related to the ca. $1.5 billion Vaccine Alliance (GAVI) Trust Fund for procurement of vaccines and vaccine-related devices is accurate and in accordance with UNICEF’s Financial Rules and Regulations and donor agreements. The Accounts Assistants tasks will support this by ensuring that accounting and financial reports (internal and external) are accurate and timely, period-end accounting procedures, reconciliations, monitoring and analysis of assigned areas are performed as required.

How Can You Make a Difference?

Under the supervision of the Accounting Officer, the Accounts Assistant will be responsible for the following key areas:

  • Performs financial accounting and analysis for the Unit. Processes, reviews and analyzes the SAP transactions, payments and account balances for area of responsibility, and identifies and initiates required adjustments.
  • Creates, reviews and maintain master data in SAP relating to areas of responsibility. Establishes budget planning limitations in SAP. Recommends budget revisions in accordance with Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and UNICEF’s Financial Rules and Regulations. Monitors project accounts for compliance with financial limitations.
  • Prepares financial reports for internal management, external donors and other third-parties. Prepares exception and/or periodic reports, statements, schedules, summaries, analysis and document work papers relating to areas of responsibility.
  • Monitors and ensures systems and reports comply with UNICEF’s Financial Rules and Regulations, and third-party requirements.
  • Performs the duties of a key-user for the Financial Management & Administration Centre, provides advice to staff on SAP processes and resolves error messages noted in the processing of the SAP transactions. Participates in the design, testing and implementation of new and revised systems relating to area of responsibility. Designs Excel spreadsheets and supports the monitoring of special projects.
  • Identify and recommends system and process improvements identified during performance of duties and responsibilities.
  • Executes period-end accounting procedures and reconciliations for area of responsibility.
  • Performs other ad hoc tasks in related areas as required and provide back up support to colleagues within the respective unit.

Required:

  • Valid work permit and residency in Denmark at the time of submitting the application. Note that the selected candidate is responsible for obtaining any required extension of their residency permit as an extension cannot be dependent on an employment with UNICEF.
  • Secondary education and relevant courses in accounting
  • A minimum of 5 years of broad experience in accounting, preferably in an international / governmental (non-profit) organization.
  • Proficiency in computerized accounting application systems and procedures and PC software, e.g. Excel, Word.
  • Fluency in English

Desirable:

  • University level courses in accounting, business or finance.
  • UN working experience
  • Experience in project management and systems development.
  • Experience in project and/or trust fund accounting
  • Knowledge of SAP (GM, FM, CO, FI, SD, MM)
  • Knowledge of IPSAS
  • Fluency in another UN working language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish)
